RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has announced that 25 individuals involved in the violent incidents on May 9, 2023, have been sentenced.

The riots, described by ISPR as a “dark chapter in Pakistan’s history,” involved politically incited violence, arson, and attacks on significant national landmarks.

More than 100 civilians are facing military trials for allegedly ransacking military installations across the nation on May 9, which were sparked after Khan was taken into custody in a graft case.

Among those sentenced are Jan Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Imran Mahboob, who received 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each for their involvement in the attack on Jinnah House.

Similarly, Raja Muhammad Ehsan was sentenced to 10 years for his role in the assault on the General Headquarters (GHQ).

“Field General Court Martial have in [the] first phase promulgated the punishments to 25 accused,” the military’s media wing said, about the suspects who resorted to violence on May 9, when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was arrested.
