Imran Khan to run for chancellor of Oxford University from behind bars

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief and prime ministerial candidate Imran Khan has declared that he would soon formally apply for the chancellor’s post at Oxford University though he has been in prison for ten years now. The position was left empty after Lord Patten resigned; he was 80 years old and served as the RIC chairman for 21 years, according to The Telegraph.

Oxford University as logistics going that the chancellor is an honorific position of a revered personality, who is elected for life, preceding all major functions. The online process was established this year for the first time to engage the university’s 350,000-member strong convocation in the election of the new chancellor.

Presently, Imran Khan is in jail in connection with charges of calling and promoting demonstrations and aggression against the military in May of last year, a matter he has always denied. Analyzing the recent interview with Khan from jail he said, “I sit in a 7ft x 8ft death cell usually assigned to terrorists, the masses voted for me because they are sick of the system & how Pakistan is run. ”

Khan got his early education from Aitchison College in Lahore, and Economics and Politics from Keble College Oxford in 1972 He also played for the university cricket team. He began representing Pakistan on the Test cricket team in 1971; he was chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.

Syed Zulfi Bukhari, Khan’s advisor on International media also confirmed the candidature stating that people wanted Khan to contest.

“The moment we get `go-ahead’ from Khan, we will release it to the media and start campaign for the signature for it,” said Bukhari.
